Scene Alba top 20 albums of the year 2021

Scene Alba top 20 albums of the year 2021 Scene Alba top 20 albums of the year 2021 20. Paul Weller - Fat Pop Weller re-connected with his pop sensibilities and brought us his most enjoyable album in years, Unashamed giant pop tunes but never without that trademark sardonic viewpoint, we needed it badly. 19. Saint Etienne - I’ve Been Trying To Tell You Indie’s pop champions returned with an ambient affair, coldly cool and sunburn hot. It was a soothing journey through loops and samples all presided over by the thrilling vocals of Dame Sarah Cracknell. Still perfect after all these years. 18. Low - Hey What Low were in the mood to fuck about and find out. An album of sonically challenging songs ‘Hey What’ showed that that three decades in they’re still up to rip up the rule book and re-write everything at a moment’s notice. 17. Admiral Fallow - Tiny Rewards Another band ripping up the rule books, Admiral Fallow took everything that is great about them and reshaped it into this fantastic...

Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill talk about New Year's Day Dr Who special

Interview with Jodie Whittaker (The Doctor) What can audiences expect from Eve Of The Daleks? I think the festive special is a wonderful high octane contained story, so if you haven’t seen the series, including the Flux, you can start this episode and be taken on a rollercoaster through a scenario where the Doctor, Yaz and Dan are stuck in a time loop. Not only are they stuck in a time loop, they’re being pursued by the Doctor’s biggest enemy, which is the Daleks. For the Doctor it is her worst scenario. This is all set on New Year’s Eve and we’ve two fantastic guest stars, Aisling Bea and Adjani Salmon who are not only hilarious but also wonderful actors that provide so much energy and brilliant chemistry. Audiences can expect lots of comedy, lots of fun, high stakes, huge amounts of jeopardy and an energised rollercoaster ride. Can you introduce us to Sarah and Nick? How was it working with Aisling Bea and Adjani Salmon? In the New Year’s Day special we were really lucky to wor...

Christmas Dinner review By Freyda aged 8

Christmas Dinner review "It was very tasty!" 5 Stars The main focus of this play was not actually Christmas dinners. It was what it feels like to lose someone you love. But it wasn’t all sad, there were also some very funny bits. I got the giggles.  It was also about spirits of the theatre, which was quite funny, in that one of them could only tweet like a bird and couldn’t talk at all. There was also one that was a theatre critic and she gave everything five stars. Then there was Scrooge, wearing a purple dressing gown, and one called Billy. The costumes were extremely funny. There was a big one that looks a bit like a poo, and there is a very funny line about a poo, because of that costume. Another good costume is worn by a character who is basically the main character. She was very grumpy and she hadn’t put on a show in the theatre for a very long time because of Covid. At one point, she changes into a very cool costume, which takes up the whole stage. I liked that bit t...

Broken Chanter - Catastrophe Hits 5/5

Broken Chanter - Catastrophe Hits 5/5 David MacGregor is on the money with the title of his newest album. It does feel as if catastrophe is hitting from all sides just now, environmental collapse, the side into unpayable debt, the sheer downright fuckery that is Brexit and its many toxic gifts, the rise in homophobia, racism, transphobia so what the fuck can we do about it? Well, we may take some solace in the fact that ‘Catastrophe Hits’ leans more towards hits rather than catastrophe. The second venture under the Broken Chanter name is a much more boisterous affair compared to the laid back melancholia of the previous album.  Edging closer to the bubbly indie pop of Scottish darlings Kid Canaveral but still sounding unique in itself, MacGregor has crafted an album of energetic existential dread. Always one to turn a finely crafted tune, David has not let us down, these ten songs are some of the best in his career. Upping the galic content this time around there’s two songs...
