Arlo Parks - Collapsed In Sunbeams 5/5

Arlo Parks - Collapsed In Sunbeams 5/5

20 year old Arlo Parks has picked the best possible title for her debut album ‘Collapsed In Sunbeams’ is a fair description for the music contained within.

Smooth, blissed-out, shuffling pop for hazy days where rays of sunlight drape themselves on your shoulders while you sip cool drinks with friends. When we get the ok to be around each other having come out the end of our Covid-imposed exiles from each other this would be a nice soundtrack to the hugs and laughs.

The songs themselves stay upbeat and airy with Arlo’s pixie vocals front and centre, wispy and pleasant she has a talent for finding the right approach to make the tracks flow gently but never dull. The music is reminiscent of Morcheeba if they were a little more cheerful and had Lily Allen poking them with a rolled-up copy of Smash Hits.

‘Collapsed In Sunbeams’ is an assured debut and a very welcome album for these troubled times, let’s hope it isn’t too long before we hear these tracks together outside in a joyful summer. I’ll have a cider, cheers.
