  10-metre Olympia mural unveiled     A   large hand-painted billboard, measuring 10 metres wide by 3.5 metres high, has been created by Cobolt Collective to welcome visitors to V&A Dundee.        It is inspired by the original Olympia Swimming Pool, a much-loved Dundee leisure centre that originally opened in 1974 on the same site as V&A Dundee, before moving to a new site on East Whale Lane.     The pool was treasured by many Dundonians and, with the largest flumes in Europe, was a place of play, joy, pleasure and delight for children and adults alike.        This year V&A Dundee will be ‘thinking out loud’ through its programme, opening up conversations about what design means, sparking debate and ideas about the role of design in enriching all our lives.     Over the spring and summer, Cobolt are working with communities to co-design a second mural for the plaza outside the museum.   ...

The  International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia   is  observed  on May 17   and aims to coordinate international events that  raise awareness  of  LGBT rights  violations and stimulate interest in LGBT rights work worldwide. By 2016, the commemorations had taken place in 130 countries. [3] The founders of the International Day Against Homophobia, as it was originally known, established the IDAHO Committee to coordinate  grass-roots  actions in different countries, to promote the day and to lobby for official recognition on May 17. That date was chosen to commemorate the decision to remove  homosexuality  from the  International Classification of Diseases  of the  World Health Organization  (WHO) in 1990.

  On May 6, 1933, Nazi demonstrators raided the libraries of the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, a German name that roughly translates to the Institute of Sexology. The Institute was a privately operated research space for studies of human sexuality. More than 12,000 books were taken from shelves and burned days later in the streets by Nazi youth groups. It was a devastating blow to the life’s work of Magnus Hirschfeld, the institute’s founder. Hirschfeld, who was Jewish and gay, was a pioneer for rights and liberation in Berlin’s thriving LGBTQ community. He founded the institute in 1919, after beginning his career as an activist in 1896 with his pamphlet Sappho and Socrates, about a gay man who took his own life after he felt he was being coerced into a straight marriage. This happens only a few months after Adolf Hitler was officially appointed chancellor of Germany on January 30, 1933.
