The SAM Awards are new independent LGBTQ+ comedy awards from Scene Alba Magazine.
We had hoped to launch the Sammy last year as part of our 5th birthday celebrations but, as with all things fun, they had to be put on hold because of Covid19. Now that the Fringe Festival 2021 has been given the go head, we are keen to launch them to coincide with that.
There are two categories; best solo performance, and best ensemble performance. The solo award is for anyone who falls under the LGBTQI banner, and the ensemble is for a group or play that has LGBTQI theme or character.
Each category has a £500 prize, so that’s enough money to cover a night accommodation of your run.

The Sammy will be presented to the comedy shows we deem to have been the best at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland.
As we have done for the last 5 years, we will also have the “Top 20 Shows to See” feature in the magazine, as well as reviews on our blog and social media pages so you can keep up to date with what to see at this fringe festival.
The awards will be announced at 7pm on 27th Aug .
